Review: The North Coast Courier (Newspaper) June 1st 2012
I haven't been to Mamma G's for a while so I was very interested to find that they have maintained the quality I got used to when they first opened up three years ago.
My first impression was how accommodating they were. It was Friday night and they were very busy but still managed to find us a table. They did this for a number of other patrons throughout the night - well done!
They have a vast menu with an impressive number of pizzas and pastas - some classics and some favourites. They also have some amazing specials on offer, which really made choosing a meal difficult.
The service was great, our waitress was very attentive and friendly.
The Chicken Livers we ordered were perfect, a rich deep sauce with just the right amount of heat. The gorgonzola snails were also delicious but I would have liked a touch more cheese. For main I had Beef Ravioli with Marscapone cheese... now there was an absolutely fantastic sauce? I would order it again just for that sauce. The Calamari Fettuccini with garlic and chilli was also fantastic.
An outstanding quality of Mamma G's is their constant attention to the quality of their ingredients.
Some might find their food expensive but you get what you pay for.
Mamma G's is child friendly and are currently running an All-You-Can-Eat Pizza Special on Wednesday night (Adults R80, Kids R40 - incl. A Free Drink).
My verdict - Still one of the nicest restaurants around! ~ David Hoehler - The Courier

After a morning of quadbiking in the sugar cane fields of the Compensation area, we decided to stop in Ballito for a bite to eat. We saw the Ballito Junction Shopping Centre on the left as you enter Ballito and once we found parking, Mamma G's just happened to be directly in front of us. As usual, we walked to the main entrance and were greeted by a cheerful and well presented Lindiwe. She took us to our table, menu's in hand.
The first & overall impression of Mamma G's is style & good food, with their sign on the door indicating the languages you can get served in pasted in full view on the door.
We ordered our drinks and they were on the table while we were still browsing the menu debating what would be good. The chocolate milkshake has to be by far one of the best and creamiest milkshakes I have had in a long time. I for one would gladly jump in the car on a weekend and drive the 45min to Ballito for this milkshake. The Homemade Lemonade was most definitely Homemade. It was cold, refreshing & thirst-quenching with sprigs of mint & slices of lemon - 2 things I love in a drink on a hot day. Definitely a drink I enjoyed very much.
For the food, we decided to have Al Fredo with Penne and the Pollo Insalate (Salad for the newcomers to Italian cuisine).
The Alfredo with ham, mushrooms, cream and garlic made it to the table steaming hot which makes me believe it was freshly prepared the moment I ordered my meal. With a truly well balanced hand, the pasta was prepared to perfection and to my liking. With a cheese sauce unlike anything I have ever had before. The cream was not overpowering to make the dish rich, it was just right. The portion being big and hearty, cram packed full of flavour it's a must if you ever in Ballito and need a good plate of Italian food. The Pollo Salad was amazingly prepared. The flavours all seemed to compliment each other perfectly - Cajun chicken strips very well prepared - juicy and succulent, the sweetest roast peppers, perfectly ripened but still firm cherry tomatoes, crisp strips of bacon, lettuce leaves, the freshness of coriander and avocado (which I absolutely love).
I enjoyed every last bit of the meal and we both stripped our plates clean.
The Vibe: With it's open layout, I can only imagine what a hot and happening meeting spot this must be for the local Ballito people. Even though we went there on a Saturday afternoon, it was moderately busy with no queues to stand in to have a seat. With the owner, Hugo, having a laugh and chat with a few patron's, I knew it to be a place of note. We sat and watched a couple with their friend entertaining their adorable baby by dancing to the wonderful Italian music playing in the background.
The atmostphere almost makes you feel as though you're in another world, far from reality, on holiday in Italy.
Mamma G's, an establishment we will most definitely be visiting time & again !
